Metra is just one hour 30 minutes from Pisa airport or two hours from Genoa, car hire is essential, directions and locations are supplied to guests for an easy journey. It's a perfect place from which to enjoy walks and is surrounded by footpaths. The village has two shops a restaurant and a bar which are all just a 3 minute stroll down the lane (5 minutes back) after food and lubrication.

The village shop (above) which is attached to the very welcoming restaurant/bar is open all day every day (except Wednesday) for coffee/ice cream, drinks, panini and good lunchtime and evening meals at keen prices. There is a cheese makers (Formaggeria) in the village offering numerous varieties all made from local milk, each with its own unique taste. Other nice cafes/restaurants for coffee or meals in nearby villages offer similar quality and value. There are 2 nearby train stations, travel either South through the very scenic Garfagnana valley or West towards the Lunigiana and the Ligurian coast.
